What a wonderful brief – to produce several concepts for a building and work one concept building up for a presentation in Brasil. The client produces simulators for offshore vehicles – oil rigs, ships, ROVs and so forth. The remit was that the buildings needed enough space for training rooms, and to house two of their 14m diameter multi-floor spherical simulators. (pop over to our 3D Design section for a better look at our work there).
As the building was to be located on the sea front, we landscaped the foreground with ‘rock pools’, and the large glass facade faces the view over the ocean, to the south. The angled roof slopes back northwards in order to allow roof-mounted PV panels to capture as much sunlight as possible, and also prevents the mid-day sun from warming the interior.
