The Brief

A new client, but a company we have known of for a while, kindly approached us to produce a business park CGI for Bradgate Park View, a new commercial building in a development just south of Chellaston, Derby. It was great to finally have the opportunity to work with them!

Use of Skype

The brief was to produce an image that was suitable for double page print, and would also be used on the website. With this particular project we used Skype’s video conferencing and screen sharing capabilities to great effect. Our rendering software has a realtime preview, which is ridiculously close to the final image we produce. Using Skype, we were able to share our screens with the client, and show them in real time their final image. If they asked for the shadows cast through the trees to the right to be a little lower on the building, we could make the change and they instantly could see the effect on the final image. We still haven’t met them, which is a shame as they were a lovely bunch to work for, but the important thing – the image they wanted – was delivered on time.

The business park CGI was produced to a resolution suitable for a site hoarding board – large. The great thing about our images is we put a great amount of detail in to them – individual blades of grass, daisies, birds flying. As the image is blown up, much of this detail becomes more apparent and adds to the perceived quality of the development. Our lighting software allows us, if a developer wishes, to recreate the correct colours and shadows for a particular development, anywhere in the world. Attention to detail is an idiom we stand by, and it’s fun to do!

Biomass CHP planning application CGIs

This project was one of the first to benefit from our promotional offer we ran a while ago, which gave a discount to any project with a green angle. The proposed development is for a 12MW Biomass CHP (Combined Heat & Power) in Clay Cross, Derbyshire, to be developed by React Energy plc, a developer and operator of energy infrastructure using clean technologies in the UK and Ireland. It’s been a great project to work on, a subject close to our own hearts, and this is the third iteration of the proposed design.

Client’s Skypod CAD files save time and budget.

Welcome to the Eurocell Skypod – a great way to let natural light into your home. We do love this sort of project – a mix of technical modelling, interior design and set dressing. These days, if a client can hand us the CAD files in a format we can use (STL, STEP, IGES – many many more) then it saves a bundle of time as we don’t have to model it from scratch. We’re lucky that this client manufactures the parts needed and therefore can lay their hands on extremely detailed production CAD files for the Skypod. This leaves more budget available, after a relatively quick conversion of the 3D CAD data to a format we can use in our 3D rendering software, to spend on creating great marketing images.

3D Watercolour Visualisation

3D Watercolour Visualisation

The beauty of CGI these days is that you don’t have to stick with the standard style. A good CGI artist can also replicate other illustrative styles once the initial images have been produced. The client for this project asked for a watercolour treatment to the final image, in keeping with the literature that it would be used within. Any number of effects can be applied, from pencil sketches to pen and ink, oil, gouache, acrylic – endless possibilities.

Sharp Aquos Illustration

Sharp Aquos LED ScreenSharp have brought out this lovely new LED screen which we covet like the precious it is. We were asked to produce an animation for web use – loopable – of which this is one frame. The only problem was the chance of actually acquiring an Aquos LED screen from Sharp was as remote as, well, it was remote. So we had to build one. Did we mind? Not one jot. Well, maybe a jot or two 😛

Residential Development

We’re lucky to be called on for repeat work from clients, and we hope it’s because they feel they’re getting a good job for a fair price (sounds a bit Delboy but there you go). This project was one such project – a unique residential development in Derbyshire which as ever, was fun to work on 🙂

House Makeover – Brittania Court

At the time of visiting this existing development you could be forgiven for thinking that they were a bit on the ugly side – a 1970’s/80’s set of apartments next to the River Derwent in Derby. But having worked with the architect in charge of the makeover I have to say we’ve fallen in love with these apartments. They are definitely unique and will look fantastic when finished!
